What Is Black Sapphire Quartz?

Coarse black aggregate with a glitter that catches the light.

Black Sapphire is an engineered quartz assembled from chunky black and charcoal fragments set into a black ground, with fine mirror flecks scattered right through it, and the effect lands nearer coarse terrazzo than anything quarried.

The sparkle is the whole point. Put it under a downlight or a pendant and the mirror flecks fire, which is what separates it from a plain black counter that simply drinks the light.

Four colorways share the one aggregate design. This one sits with White and Gray Sapphire at ₱5,000 per square meter and the warm Beige runs ₱5,700, so the decision between them comes down to color.

Manufactured rather than quarried, it works out at roughly 93% crushed natural stone held together with about 7% resin. That binder is what makes the slab stain-resistant, and it leaves a sealer nothing to sink into.

How Do You Clean Black Sapphire Quartz?

Three habits, and the sparkle keeps working.

Always Keep the Surface Dry

Dried water marks and limescale stand out on a black polished surface far more than on a pale one. Go over it with a damp cloth, follow with a dry one, and the counter reads clean instead of streaked.

Use Only Quartz Cleaner

Dishwashing liquid leaves a film, and on black that film dulls the mirror flecks until the glitter disappears altogether. A pH-balanced quartz formula clears residue without going after the resin.

Never Scour It

Abrasive powders, scouring pads and steel wool leave scuffing in the polish that never comes back out. Lift anything baked on with a plastic scraper and the finish stays unmarked.

How Do You Care for Black Sapphire Quartz?

Sealing is off the list, which leaves three rules.

Always Use Trivets

Resin is the heat-sensitive component, so a pan carried straight off a live burner can scorch or discolor the slab for good. Heat is the commonest way a quartz counter is ruined, and no workmanship warranty covers it.

Keep It Out of Direct Sun

Sustained UV fades engineered quartz and the shift cannot be undone. A black slab loses depth as it goes, so hang blinds where a counter catches the afternoon and keep every quartz installation indoors.

Skip Harsh Chemicals

Oven cleaner, bleach and other high-pH products break the resin down over the years. Wax is worth avoiding too, because the cloudy bloom it leaves is very obvious on black.

Is Black Sapphire Quartz Good for Kitchen Countertops?

Yes, with the trade every black counter makes.

Yes. Engineered quartz resists staining and acid will not etch it, so calamansi, vinegar, wine and tomato sauce sit where they land rather than marking the slab. On a black ground a spill has usually vanished from view long before you reach it anyway.

Hardness is on your side as well. Quartz measures roughly 7 on the Mohs scale where marble manages 3, so it shrugs off the scratching that leaves a soft natural stone looking tired after a few years of ordinary cooking.

The trade is the one every black counter makes. Food and stains disappear, while dust, fingerprints and dried water all turn up. Coarse aggregate helps more here than a fine grain would, because there is enough happening in the surface to break up a smear.

Heat is the real boundary. A pan lifted off a live burner can scorch the resin and no polishing brings it back. If hot pans go straight down in your kitchen, a dark granite takes heat that quartz will not.

Does Black Sapphire Quartz Need Sealing?

There is nothing to seal — this slab is manufactured, not quarried.

No. A sealer earns its keep by filling the pore structure of quarried stone so liquid cannot travel inward. The resin binder in engineered quartz leaves it nothing to sink into, and a few formulations actively attack that resin.

Worth knowing if you are weighing this against natural stone: the dark granites on our Laguna list do not want sealing either. Absolute Black and Black Galaxy, both ₱4,200 per sqm, are dense enough to skip it, so on maintenance the three sit level.

Anybody selling you a sealer for a quartz counter has either misunderstood the material or is selling something you will never use. Cleaning is the entire maintenance routine.

Black Sapphire vs the Rest of the Sapphire Range

Black Sapphire is the one that sparkles

Chunky black chips with mirror flecks running through them, ₱5,000 per sqm. Choose it when you want a dark counter that throws light back rather than swallowing it.

Gray Sapphire is the mid-tone version

Gray Sapphire takes the same chunky aggregate onto a mid gray ground at the same ₱5,000. Easier to live with in a small or dark kitchen, and it hides dust better than this one does.

White Sapphire is the bright end

White Sapphire is the high-contrast opposite: the same chips on bright white, also ₱5,000. It opens a room up where this one anchors it.

Beige Sapphire is the warm one

Beige Sapphire is the only warm colorway in the range, at ₱5,700. Same chips, opposite end of the tonal scale, and the pick where oak and brass already set the tone.

What Colors Go With Black Sapphire Quartz?

A sparkling black counter wants light above it.

Black grounds a room, so keep the cabinetry lighter and let the counter run through the scheme as the heavy band.

White and off-white cabinetry give the cleanest contrast, and the mirror flecks stop the join looking flat. Pale gray does the same job and softens the edge between the two.

Timber warms it up. Oak and light walnut against a sparkling black reads expensive rather than severe, which is more than a plain black usually manages.

Lighting matters more here than color does. The flecks only fire under directional light, so downlights or pendants over the counter earn their place. Under flat ambient light this reads as an ordinary black slab, which is worth knowing before you choose it for the sparkle. It is the one slab on our Laguna floor worth seeing lit before you commit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Black Sapphire real stone?
No, not the way a quarried slab is. This is engineered quartz: roughly 93% crushed natural stone bound with about 7% resin. Quartz itself is a natural mineral, but the slab is made in a factory rather than cut from a hillside, so acid will not etch it and sealing never enters the picture. There is no sapphire in it.

How does it compare with a black granite?
Different strengths, and the price runs the other way. Absolute Black and Black Galaxy are both ₱4,200 per sqm in Laguna, so both come in under this slab, and both take a hot pan that would scorch quartz. Black Sapphire answers with the mirror flecks, which no quarried black gives you, and with a surface that resists staining and never asks for a sealer.

Does the sparkle show in every kitchen?
No. The mirror flecks need directional light to fire, so they show under downlights, pendants and daylight from a window. Under flat ceiling light the slab reads as a plain black counter.

Can you put a hot pan on Black Sapphire quartz?
No. Direct heat scorches the resin binding the slab and the mark cannot be polished out. If hot pans go straight onto the counter in your kitchen, a dark granite handles that where quartz does not.

Does Black Sapphire quartz stain?
Stain-resistant, not stainproof. Spills rest on the surface instead of soaking in. Turmeric, red wine and coffee all sit on top and wipe away, and on a black ground they are barely visible while they sit there.

Does the pattern need aligning across a seam?
No. The aggregate is evenly spread and has no grain direction, so slabs can be turned whichever way suits the room and a seam does not need matching. That keeps long runs and L-shaped Laguna kitchens simple to plan.

Can Black Sapphire quartz be used outdoors?
No. Prolonged UV fades engineered quartz permanently, and a black slab visibly loses depth as it goes. For an outdoor counter or a lanai, the granite we stock in Laguna holds its color in the sun.
